Commonplace is a one-off purchase. Buy a licence key, then activate it the first time you open the app — it's yours to keep, on your own Windows and Linux PCs.

Activate

Already bought? Activate your copy.

  1. After purchase, you'll get a receipt and a separate email containing your licence key.
  2. Download Commonplace (installer or portable, Windows or Linux) and open it.
  3. Paste your key into the Activate Commonplace box and click Activate. That registers this device against your key.

Commonplace re-checks your licence quietly in the background and keeps working offline between checks. Full details are in the user guide.

Manage

Manage your licence and devices.

Your key covers a set number of devices, and each machine you activate uses one slot. Use the customer portal to see where your key is activated, free up a slot when you move to a new machine, or download past invoices.

Lost your key, or stuck activating?

I haven't received my licence email.

Give it ten minutes and check your spam folder. Still nothing? Email hello@getcommonplace.co.uk with the address you used at checkout and we'll sort it.

"The activation limit on this key has been reached."

Every device slot on your key is in use. Open the customer portal above, deactivate a device you no longer use, then activate this one.

"That key isn't recognised."

Check for stray spaces or a missing character — it's easiest to copy the whole key straight from your licence email. If it still won't take, email hello@getcommonplace.co.uk.

Moving Commonplace to a new machine.

Deactivate the old device in the customer portal to free its slot, then activate Commonplace on the new machine with the same key. Your data folder copies across as-is.
